For most manufacturers, the first call to Conrad Kacsik isn't triggered by a failure. It's triggered by a compliance deadline: a Nadcap re-certification, an AMS2750 survey or a CQI-9 assessment. That's a reasonable place to start, but it shouldn't be where the conversation ends.

The process of getting ready for an audit often exposes aging controllers, limited data acquisition capabilities, outdated human machine interfaces, inconsistent documentation and even equipment that has just become difficult to maintain.

The audit is the trigger, but what it uncovers along the way is usually the more important conversation.

Passing an Audit Isn't the Same as Running at Full Potential

A facility can meet its compliance requirements and still depend on manual processes, operator workarounds, disconnected controls or inefficient equipment. Compliance should be treated as the baseline for a thermal processing system, not the final engineering objective.

We recently worked with one manufacturer running nearly two dozen furnaces that all needed to meet AMS2750 temperature uniformity requirements, which call for readings within a tenth of a degree at set intervals throughout the process. This client was doing it by hand: operators walking the floor, reading gauges, and logging every measurement on paper across nearly two dozen units. One missed entry, one transposed number, or one operator out sick, and a facility is scrambling to reconstruct records before an auditor asks for them.

A SCADA or HMI upgrade takes that same tenth-of-a-degree tracking and automates it. The system logs readings continuously, flags anything out of tolerance in real time, and generates the reporting an audit requires without anyone standing at a furnace with a clipboard. What surprises some of our customers is that bringing a system up to date rarely requires replacing the furnace or the entire control system. Conrad Kacsik can often integrate new controls, HMIs, data acquisition tools, or SCADA capability with equipment a facility already owns. A control panel retrofit can deliver much of the benefit of a new system at a more manageable cost.

A Phased Roadmap Keeps Improvements on Budget

Not every finding from an Engineering Review needs to be addressed at once.
